But I suggest that the underlying drama, from the moment of itself inspiration, wrote itself as something else, somewhat against the grain of what its dramatist overtly intended. Coyle is in danger of slightly losing his head around Owen and uses Lechmere to steady himself. Alone, Coyle wonders how he shall tell this news to Owen's family. Owen greets the Coyles warmly, with Lechmere also present. Her ruthlessness is redoubled seemingly because she is a woman. It is perhaps some of those inventions need undoing, where the music will bear it.
